Residents in Cley rallied round to help US personnel navigate a huge truck through the village's narrow streets as it headed to the scene of Tuesday's fatal helicopter crash.

The lorry, which was carrying equipment believed to be used in the recovery operation, got into difficulty on the New Road/High Street bend as it headed east on the A149.

Sarah Whittley, part owner of the Pinkfoot Gallery - which sits on the tight corner - said the truck came through the village at about 8.15am.

'I saw the flashing lights, it was level with my window upstairs,' she added. 'I heard lots of shouting and called the police out and they moved all the traffic to get them round the corner.'

Ms Whittley said the US military personnel were very apologetic after the truck bumped into the gallery building as it navigated the bend.

But with help from residents and police they were able to guide it through the tight streets and onto the scene.
