A long-serving volunteer at the Big C celebrated her 90th birthday with a party at the Timberhill shop in Norwich.
Marjorie Wilson, who lives in Frettenham, began volunteering for the charity following her fight against breast cancer and subsequent mastectomy and has been helping Big C for 18 years now.
A 90th birthday party was held for her in the bridal department on the second floor of the Big C shop on Wednesday.
Marjorie began her working life as an apprentice hairdresser in 1928 at the age of 14. She worked at her father's hairdressers in Great Yarmouth, named after the family of Botwrights. At the time she was paid five shillings a week. During the war her father was recruited into the 202 Regiment which was part of Churchill's secret army and Marjorie had to carry on the family business.
She met her husband Derek in 1957. He had volunteered for Big C for 12 years, but has decided to take things a little easy. Marjorie also has a daughter who convinced her to write down many of her stories last year as a book – which is as of yet unpublished.
