Participants in the RSPB's Big Wild Sleepout will be able to see the sun set and rise at Lakenheath Fen on June 20, getting an otherwise unavailable look at the 740-acre wildlife haven.

The event coincides with the fen's 'longest day bioblitz', an attempt to see as many species on the reserve as possible over the course of the day.

David White, Communications Officer said: 'This event offers a fantastic opportunity to fully immerse yourself in the reserve. Why not come and experience the sights and sounds of Lakenheath Fen at both dusk and dawn?

'The bioblitz event is also a fantastic opportunity to discover and celebrate the fantastic range of species that call the reserve home.'

A dawn walk take place at 4am and a dusk walk at 11pm on June 21, with bitterns, marsh harriers and cuckoos likely to star.

Several events will also focus on insects, including a guided walk dedicated to dragonflies.

The Big Wild Sleepout is part of the RSPB's efforts to get people to spend a night out camping in order to find out which creatures they share their homes with, and raise money to help protect them.

The conservation charity is also encouraging people to take part in the sleepout in their own garden. It is asking for participants to have their sleepouts sponsored and to include activities such as den building, torchlight safaris and bug hunting.

All money raised will go towards the Giving Nature a Home campaign, with £20 enough to pay for a nestbox for a starling and £30 enough for a GPS tag to monitor bird migration.
