One of the voices of Norfolk radio is set to see another side of reporting on a global sporting event when she volunteers at the Commonwealth Games this summer.

Nicky Price, who presents the breakfast show on BBC Radio Norfolk, has been chosen to be one of 15,000 volunteers at this month's event in Glasgow.

Known as the Clyde-siders, the volunteers will play a similar role to London 2012's famed Games Makers and will help the international sporting extravaganza run as smoothly as possible.

Scores of people up and down the country were inspired to offer their services after hearing of and seeing the experiences of those who helped at the London Olympics Paralympics Games – and some who were volunteers at London 2012 are set to be in Glasgow.

Miss Price, who was the sports editor at BBC Radio Norfolk, covered the Commonwealth Games in Manchester 2002 as a reporter for the BBC and reported on the Paralympic Games in 2012.

This year will see the 37-year-old see life 'from the other side' as she will be helping journalists from around the globe in the Emirates arena for the badminton and at the velodrome.

Miss Price, who has just completed her final training weekend, said: 'I was the Olympics reporter for BBC Radio Norfolk and the stories that people came back with from London after being one of the Games Makers sounded amazing. I thought it sounded like an incredible thing to do, and I just wanted to get involved.'

She added: 'The Games Makers in London looked like they were having the time of their lives.

'I thought if I had the chance to do something as much fun as that, then I'd really want to get involved.'

As part of her volunteering role, Miss Price will be supporting journalists at press conferences, taking their questions for the athletes and making sure the press conferences run like clockwork.

She went for her interview for the role back in May last year and has been up to Glasgow five times, culminating in role-specific training at the venues where she will be based.

Each of the volunteers have been issued with red and grey kit, including trousers, polo shirts, a cagoule, a soft shell jacket, hat, water bottle and an umbrella. Miss Price, who lives near Hall Road in Norwich, will be staying in Glasgow for two weeks for the Games and will be staying at the volunteers' campsite.

On her days off, she has tickets to see the 10,000m athletics, where it is hoped Mo Farah will compete, and gymnastics.

As a volunteer, Miss Price will also get to have a sneak peek of the opening ceremony at the dress rehearsal. She has also bought tickets for the closing ceremony.

'I am beyond myself with excitement,' she said.

'I'm pretty much thinking about it all the time – and I'm busy researching Malaysian badminton players.'

Miss Price, who has worked at BBC Radio Norfolk for 14 years, added: 'Having worked as a reporter at previous Games, I'll have an idea of the journalists' deadline, the things they are likely to ask and how urgent their questions are as I've been in that arena myself.

'I'm really glad I've got that experience and I think it will really help.'
