It is a tradition more associated with American schools, but now Norfolk schools are catching prom fever.

And even though proms are months away, eager pupils are being given the opportunity to find that perfect dress at the Party & Prom dress shop in Long Stratton this weekend.

The shop, which opened in The Street last April, has a wide range of dresses.

Owner Hazel Hallett said: 'I sold my first school prom dress for 2015 last October, but now the new school term has started, I am expecting to be very busy over the coming months.

'Many girls start their search for the perfect dress online, but this can often be disappointing. You have to be careful online as many dresses arrive not looking the same as the models in the pictures.

'There are many reputable online companies selling prom dresses, but buying from a photograph can be difficult. This is why I am having a prom open day so they can see what they are buying.

'A prom is often seen as a celebration of the end of a girl's school career and the start of the transition to becoming a woman, so finding the perfect dress is important.'

After working in the NHS for 25 years, Mrs Hallett decided to change careers amidst a struggle to find a dress for her daughter's prom.

She said: 'Setting up my business in Norfolk has

been a pleasure and I have received such great support from the community and the South Norfolk Council-sponsored business course.'

'My intention is to use and promote local businesses as much as possible'

The open day is on Saturday from 11am until 4pm and there will be a showcase of hairdressers, beauticians and florists from the area.
