The Master Builder of the Year Awards is a nationwide search by the Federation of Master Builders (FMB) to find the best builders in the UK.

Nominations must come from a satisfied client, and builders are judged on their technical ability together with their customer service skills.

Kingsley Building and Groundworks is through to the final after winning two categories - the best new home and best small renovation project in the region.

The new home award was won with a four bed chalk and brick house built at Holme, near Hunstanton, while the small project was an extension at Burnham Market.

Kingsley director Ed Stubbings said it was the second time the firm, which has been in business 10 years, had won a new build award.

'All our guys are age old tradesmen, they've been doing it a long time,' he said. 'Eighty or 90pc of our work is holiday homes, we're used to customers not being there, they have to trust us, they know we know what we're doing.'

Ed and his 10-strong firm will find out whether they have won at an awards ceremony being held at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge Hotel in London, on February 18. TV presenter and architecture enthusiast Charlie Luxton will be presenting the awards.

John Watson, FMB service director for the eastern counties said: 'Small local builders are vital to the British economy and the Master Builder of the Year Awards acknowledge the good work that they do.

'For the clients it is about publically showing their appreciation for a job well done as it is up to them to nominate their builder. This is what makes these awards extra special.'

If Kingsley Building and Groundworks goes on to win the overall master builder of the year title, they will drive away in a brand new commercial vehicle, while the client who nominated the company will win a £3,000 cash prize.
