Pupils from west Norfolk primary schools are snapping up 150 free place for the Bespak Mini GEAR fun run.

And the competition for having the most children participate in the fun run has notched up a gear too - with a £800 cash prize going to the winning school.

Fifteen schools have been offered 10 free places each and 12 have already signed up - with Snettisham Primary School being the first in the queue.

As well as accepting the free places, the have also entered a further 30 children in a bid for most number of pupils participating.

Ann-Marie Wing, teaching assistant at the school, said: 'The children have responded so enthusiastically to this event and have encouraged their parents to join in. We have made PE a real focus this year by working with EduFit and having weekly training sessions has encouraged the children to embrace fitness and try to improve their own performance.

'We are using the event to raise money for Friends of Snettisham Primary School and we have opened this out to the wider community - what we are doing will have a life-long impact on us all.'

The Bespak Mini-GEAR fun run takes place at 10am on Sunday May 3. Runners in the fun run must be 6 years of age or over on race day. Runners under 8 years old must be accompanied by a participating adult.
