A small ceremony marked the end of what has been a long relationship between an Army regiment and Norfolk.

The Light Dragoons lowered their flag at Robertson Barracks, Swanton Morley, for the last time as they made their move to Catterick, Yorkshire.

But it is not all doom and gloom as in their place 1st The Queen's Dragoon Guards (QDG) raised their colours as they officially moved to the county.

Lt Col James Senior, commanding officer of the Light Dragoons said: 'It is very sad that our time in Robertson Barracks has come to a close.

'I hope people will agree that we have left with our heads held high and done the right thing by the community.

'I want to wish 1st The Queen's Dragoon Guards the best of luck in their new home and thank the people of Norfolk for being so kind to us.'

Lt Col Dan Duff, who commands the QDG, said: 'People are particularly excited knowing what a good time the Light Dragoons have had here.

'It is a beautiful part of the country and the Light Dragoons always felt very welcome.

'It is a great place to be, we have had huge amounts of kindness from the community.

'I have already had a number of letters from people welcoming us land on my desk.

'This is the end of a long stay for the Light Dragoons and the start of a new chapter for 1st The Queen's Dragoon Guards.

'The regiment recruits from Wales and the border counties so we are quite a long way from the majority of our homes.

'It means people will be more invested in the local community.'
