A high school will this week be told it is 'good' in all areas and serving its community well, two years after inspectors said it required improvement.

The Ofsted report for Old Buckenham High School, due to be released on Thursday, will praise an improvement in standards since 2013, with particular mention of how it teaches mathematics.

The report, which follows a two-day inspection on October 7 and 8, said: 'The school's motto 'Achieving excellence together' accurately describes much of the current provision for students at Old Buckenham High School. The headteacher and the governing body have substantially raised standards in recent years. This is now a school that serves its community well.'

The team of inspectors, lead by Richard Spencer, said there was a 'culture of reading' at the school, and also highlighted a substantial fall in bullying over the past two years.

The school's previous full inspection, in October 2013, resulted in a 'requires improvement' judgement in all areas.

The inspectors said headteacher Aron Whiles, who became head in 2013, led the school 'with passion, energy and rigour'.

In a letter to parents last night, Mr Whiles said: 'Securing the judgment of 'good' for our school is a testament to the hard work and commitment of our students, staff, and governors over the past two years.'

He added that the school now aimed to become 'outstanding'.

The report said the school was not yet at that level because boys do not achieve as well as girls, especially in English, but said the school recognised this was an important area for improvement, and has planned 'a range of support and strategies' to address it.

It added that assessment is not used as effectively as it could be in some areas, standards in English are not as high as they are in maths, and the attendance of some groups of pupils was below that seen nationally.
