The emergency services are currently at the scene of a fire in Nelson Street, understood to have been caused by ash from a wood burner

Residents from neighbouring properties have been asked to temporarily leave their homes while the crews from across west Norfolk dealt with the incident.

Bob Ayers, station manager of King's Lynn, said: 'The fire developed quickly although we did manage to contain it to the ground floor.

'The upstairs has smoke damage, as do the neighbouring properties.'

Two crews from King's Lynn and two from Sandringham were called shortly before 8am to reports of the fire.

The aerial ladder was also called to the incident.

Mr Ayers added: 'We will probably be here for another hour until to make sure it is completely extinguished and there are no hot spots.

'We can't afford to take any risks in a property of this age.'

Nobody at the scene required medical treatment or taken to hospital.
