Police have today confirmed the death of a man at Norwich Bus Station is not being treated as suspicious.

An investigation was launched following the death of the man, who is in his 30s and from the Norwich area, but it has concluded his death was not suspicious.

A file has been passed to the coroner and an inquest will be opened in due course.

Police were called to the bus station at about 7.15pm on Sunday with the ambulance also in attendance to treat the man who was believed to be having a heart attack.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Trust said: 'The ambulance service was called at just after 7pm to Norwich bus station to a report of a man who was unconscious and not breathing.

'An ambulance crew, rapid response vehicle and ambulance officer attended to the man, believed to be in his 30s, who was in cardiac arrest.

'He was treated at the scene before being taken to Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital in a critical condition.'

A spokesman for Konectbus, which manages and operates the bus station, said their 'condolences' were with the family and friends of the man involved.

One man, who came across the scene while coming back from a meal with his girlfriend, said: 'We got back to the bus station and there was a bit of a commotion. There was a man on the floor near the back doors to the bath store.'

He said that people were trying to comfort him, and some young men said he had been there for half an hour.

The man said his condition deteriorated while the couple were waiting for their bus.

He said his girlfriend, who had completed a first aid course at work last week, ran over and held the man's head, and was preparing to start CPR when paramedics arrived at the scene.

He added: 'We have never seen or experienced anything like that before. We feel genuinely sorry for him and his family.'
