The sounds of Brahms, Beethoven, Schubert and more will entertain audiences in Norwich during a weekend packed full of music-making by top performers.
Called Cello Con Brio: Magical Journeys, Norfolk and Norwich Chamber Music's event will take place from January 15 to 17.
Roger Rowe, secretary of Norfolk and Norwich Music Club which presents concerts under the title Norfolk and Norwich Chamber Music, said the organisation aimed to raise the profile of classical music in Norwich and that the weekend offered audiences the chance to enjoy listening to some brilliant young musicians playing a mix of familiar and unfamiliar music.
He said: 'David Cohen, who has played in Norwich twice before very impressively, is a really outstanding young cellist who was the youngest leader of the Philharmonia Orchestra at the age of 20 and now has a solo career. Every year we invite a prominent musician to bring some friends for a weekend of music, and this year David is bringing a violinist called Corinne Chapelle, a pianist called Katya Apekisheva and also the Smith Quartet.'
Mr Cohen will kick off the event on January 15 with a solo recital at The Chapel, in Park Lane. He will be joined by Ms Chapelle and Ms Apekisheva for a concert of trios at the John Innes Centre on January 16 featuring works by Brahms and Arensky. There will then be two concerts at the John Innes Centre on January 17. The first will see Mr Cohen and Ms Apekisheva perform a programme of Schnittke, Beethoven, Stravinsky and Paganini, and the second will see Mr Cohen share the stage with the Smith Quartet for a concert including works by Nyman, Gordon Crosse, Gavin Higgins and Schubert.
