The tradition of Jack Valentine saw independent shops in Norwich devote their windows to hearts, gifts and messages of love for an annual competition.
Organised by the Norwich Lanes committee, the St Valentine's shop window prize was scooped by Arthritis UK, in Lower Goat Lane, for its elaborate decorations using donations.
Lanes marketing manager Jonty Young said Jack Valentine was a great local tradition, which had been rekindled in partnership with the Museum of Norwich.
Popular in Norfolk, Jack would leave anonymous gifts on doorsteps on St Valentine's Day, knocking on the door and running away before he was seen.
'It also draws attention to our wonderfully creative independent shops, restaurants and bars in a way that brings the whole community together,' said Mr Young.
