Tweets giving out false travel information from Sanders Coaches have been taken off the website sometime this afternoon.
A Twitter account claiming to be from Sanders Coaches has been investigated by Twitter and reported to the police.
It said that all Sanders buses had been cancelled until 8.40 this morning.
The account, called Charles Sanders (@CharlesSandersC), tweeted last night that the bus company had driver shortages.
The official Sanders Coaches account responded on Twitter by saying: 'Important. Ignore all tweets from @CharlesSandersC They are no way associated with us! Apologies for any confusion!'
The Twitter account has even been replying to customers on Twitter.
One tweet apologised to someone who complained about a bus driving too quickly. Another thanked a customer for feedback.
Charles Sanders, managing director of Sanders Coaches, said: 'We use Twitter as a good medium to get information out there, but as with these things, if misused, it can cause problems.
'For us it could have caused a lot of inconvenience to a lot of people. Fortunately most things this morning have rang smoothly and it hasn't impacted us. We were able to stop the damage pretty quickly by putting our own tweets out there.
'We have reported it to Twitter who is investigating it for us and we have also been in touch with the police. Once we know more from Twitter we will be going back to the police.'
