A Norwich musician could still be the next winner of BBC1's The Voice after he snatched victory from the jaws of defeat following a roller-coaster ride of a show.

Bradley Waterman, of Silver Road, Norwich, was performing on Saturday night's show having previously impressed celebrity judges, including Paloma Faith and Ricky Wilson, with his cover of Cee Lo Green's Forget You.

Millions of people tuned in to see the 19-year-old go head-to-head with Rick Snowdon in performing Something's Got A Hold On Me/I'm A Man by Etta James/Bo Diddley.

Following the battle, the former Sprowston Community High School pupil first went through the agony of being snubbed by his mentor, Paloma, before experiencing the ecstasy of being thrown a lifeline by Boy George who 'stole' him for his own team.

Speaking after Saturday's show, Mr Waterman said: 'I was in shock. I just thought I was going home. I thought that was it and when he stole me I was just in shock – it was one of the best feelings I've had.'

The tension was almost unbearable for those supporting Mr Waterman, including his mother Paula Hunt, from Sprowston, who said: 'As his mum I was obviously anxious, disappointed when he lost the battle and elated when Boy George stole him. I'm just very, very proud.'

Explaining his decision to steal Mr Waterman, Boy George said: 'You were great, you were great and you should've been on my team in the first place.'

He added: 'Bradley just sang great and I think he's got huge likeability. I think people are going to love him.'

As previously reported, Mr Waterman, who has been dubbed the little Elvis, learned to play guitar at 15 and held his first performance a year later at a school-leavers' event.

The Voice airs on BBC1 on Saturday night at 7pm.
