A former RAF Marham Station Commander will head up the UK's new strike jet force, the Ministry of Defence has announced.
Air Commodore Harv Smyth, who has been serving as Tornado Force Commander since handing over the reins at the Norfolk base last year, has been named as the first Lightning Force Commander.
The F-35B Lightning II joint strike fighter jets are due to come into service by 2018 but Air Commodore Smyth will take up the role on April 1 this year.
Group Captain Stephen Ward is set to take over as Tornado Force Commander, based at RAF Marham.
