The picturesque two-storey house, in Beccles Road, in Fritton, in Great Yarmouth, caught fire at around 7.20pm on Wednesday evening.
Yesterday firefighters were still ripping the thatch from the roof.
In the morning they had to put out the fire for a second time after it re-ignited. Four crews remained on scene until about 2pm.
A spokesman for Norfolk Fire said they found there were no suspicious circumstances as to the cause of the fire.
The continuing work yesterday caused traffic chaos throughout the morning and early afternoon.
The A143 Beccles Road was closed in both directions at Fritton next to the fire, as well as in Belton, until 2pm.
As a result motorists had to travel through country lanes in Browston and Ashby to get between the two villages.
This caused long delays with heavy vehicles having to squeeze through the awkward route.
Cherry Lane Garden Centre, on Beccles Road near Belton, was one business affected by the road closure.
A spokesman for the centre said: 'We had a very slow morning while the road closures were put in place.
'When the fire started leaving at 2pm things started to pick up again. It was a disappointing today but nothing we could do.'
Fire crews will continue their investigations into the cause of the fire today.
