Man jailed for six years after being found guilty of sexually assaulting two girls in south Norfolk

Darren English, of The Street, Norton Subcourse, was sentenced on Friday at Norwich Crown Court by Judge Bate.

He had previously been found guilty of four counts of sexual assault against a girl under the age of 13.

Norfolk Constabulary's Child Abuse Investigation Unit (CAIU) launched an investigation into English in July 2014 after being contacted by the parents of one of the girls.

English was subsequently charged with five counts of sexual assault. Three counts related to incidents involving one victim in the south Norfolk area between September 1, 2013 and July 17, 2014. The other two counts related to incidents involving the second victim in the same area but between May 20 and July 16, 2014.

He was convicted of four counts but found not guilty of one offence between May 20 and July 16.

During police interview English denied the allegations put to him.

Detective Constable Tracy Billing of the CAIU, said: 'The fact English pleaded not guilty to all the offences meant the victims had to relive their ordeals within the court realm.

'It has been an extremely stressful experience for them and their families and we would like to commend them for the courage they have shown.

'We hope such a sentence will help give them a sense of closure while encouraging any other victims of such abuse to contact the police.

'The Constabulary takes such reports very seriously and has supported the victims throughout the investigation.'

English was placed on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely.
