Champion trainer John Gosden is used to blooding newcomers to the racetrack at Great Yarmouth.

But when Ardad won on the East coast course's opening day of the 2016 season, few immediately thought about the following week's Royal Ascot.

But Gosden, whose top racer Raven's Pass won his debut at Great Yarmouth, had done so. On Tuesday, the colt out of Kodiac, won the Windsor Castle Stakes over the same five-furlong trip.

Ardad collected the £4,658 for winning the British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes at Great Yarmouth, a class four contest, but on Tuesday collected more than £45,000 for connections for landing Ascot's listed class one contest which featured 22 sprinters.

Ardad ran out a dominant winner at 20/1 winner in the hands of Robert Havlin, who also rode him on the East coast.

He moved powerfully towards the far rail before being sent for home and quickly put the race to bed, passing the post well clear of 100/1 shot Savannah's Dream.

It was a first career winner at the meeting for Havlin, who said: 'I've hit the bar a few times, thankfully John kept faith in me! 'When he ran at Yarmouth the boss had already entered him in this race. Yarmouth was like a piece of work and he showed no ill effects after it. John is such a great trainer, he wouldn't have run him without a chance.'

Gosden said: 'I actually entered him for this race before he'd ever run. Then he won at Yarmouth last week and I thought he'd go close if he acted on the ground. It's a little loose because of all the rain. He handled it very nicely.'

He added: 'It's great for Robert. He's a fantastic guy. He's there every morning and he's amazingly great on difficult horses.'
