Persistent rain resulted in a spate of crashes, heavy flooding and the postponement of a lucrative football match in Lowestoft yesterday.

? Shortly after 4pm, police were called to a two vehicle collision involving a motorcycle and an Audi A4, on Bloodmoor Road.

The road was blocked for a short time, but no-one was injured.

? At about 4.30pm, roughly an hour after the rain started, police were called to the A146 Beccles Road – close to the Barnby Bends – after reports of a four-car collision.

A Toyota Yaris, Renault Clio, Peugeot 208 and BMW 320D were involved in the collision.

A police spokesman said: 'One person had to be cut free and a second person also received treatment from ambulance personnel.'

Three ambulances, a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance officer attended and treated the two patients.

'Both were taken to James Paget Hospital. Not a lot is known about their injuries, but they are believed to be non-life threatening,' said an ambulance spokesman.

The road was partially open at 5.10pm but it had not fully re-opened until about 6.50pm.

Motorists were diverted via Mutford, which also proved problematic due to the large volume of surface water.

Bus services X2 and 146 were also delayed.

? It is understood that the Norwich City team coach, which was heading towards Lowestoft Town Football Club, was delayed as a result of the accident.

When the team did arrive, shortly before 7pm, the match was postponed a short while later due to the waterlogged pitch.

? Supporters travelling to the match via the Norwich to Lowestoft train line also experienced delays – due to heavy rain flooding the railway in Brundall.

Services from Great Yarmouth were also delayed, with disruption occurring from 4pm, before a normal service had resumed by 6pm.

? Three vehicles were involved in a collision on the A12 in Thorington at about 6pm – halfway between Darsham and Blythburgh.

A Peugeot 206, a Nissan Note and a Suzuki Wagon crashed – which caused the road to be blocked and traffic diverted via the A144.

Two ambulances and a rapid response vehicle attended and treated two patients – one, a man in his 70s with suspected chest pain and one patient believed to be a woman.

They were both taken to hospital for further care and the road was re-opened around 8.10pm.

? Across the area, the large volume of surface water resulted in a number of locations that were reported as flooded.

The A146 near Rookery Park, Holly Road in Oulton Broad, The Street in Carlton Colville and a number of roads in Wrentham are all believed to have been affected.

It is also understood that a number of businesses across the area were affected, with the Morrisons store in Pakefield having to close due to flooding.
