Travellers will not be allowed to disrupt a family fun day in north Norfolk this weekend, according to organisers.

More than half a dozen caravans have set up home on grassland next to the hospital at High Kelling, by Holt, near where Lloyd Court (Housing with Care) is hosting its summer festival on Sunday, from 11am to 6pm.

And they have already attracted complaints from visitors to one of the region's most popular visitor attractions - the Norfolk Norfolk Railway, whose terminus at Holt backs on to the beauty spot.

Among the attractions at the festival will be a car cutting demonstration by firefighters from Holt (12noon); a children's fancy dress competition (12.45pm); Dog show (2.15pm); Tug-of-war tournament (3pm); and Taekwondo demonstration (3.45pm).

All proceeds from the day are being split between four chosen worthy causes – The East Anglian Air Ambulance, The Firefighter's Charity, The Alzheimer's Society and The Lloyd Court Amenity Fund.

There is also, running all day, the Lloyd Court Welly Wanging championship, in memory of resident Michael Rawson, who was killed following a collision with a car, in January.

A spokesperson for Lloyd Court said: 'It should be a fabulous day with lots to see and do.

'The event will take place in the beautiful grounds of Lloyd Court and Kelling Hospital.

'There will be lots to do on the day, including food and drink vendors, a bouncy castle, a rodeo bull, games, competitions, a grand raffle with prizes donated from local businesses across North Norfolk. There will also be stalls and a full entertainment programme including dance troupe.'

But they added: 'The festival is being held in the grounds between Kelling Hospital, Lloyd Court and Holt Medical. The travellers are situated on what would have been our overflow car park. We are using the dentist's surgery car park mainly, and are allowed to use the Doctor's surgery car park now as overflow.'
