A musician from Norfolk is up for a gong at one of Britain's most prestigious award ceremonies.

Connor Mullally, 20, from Belton, has been nominated for a MOBO Award in the MOBO Unsung category which highlights and celebrates emerging talent in the British music scene.

The former Lynn Grove pupil sent an application off to MOBO to be recognised in the category but he said he never thought he would get the nod.

'I was so surprised when the application got accepted,' he said. 'I sent it off because I thought it would be silly not to and it is just great that I got it.'

Mullally's musical style is a unique take on soul and he said it is best described as 'neo-soul' as it also takes influences from other types of music.

The MOBO Awards celebrates music of black origin with previous winners of awards including Tinie Tempah, Emeli Sandé and Rita Ora and Mullally said some of the winners have really inspired him.

'I love Jessie J's vocal ability and am so impressed by the way she has trained her voice,' he said. 'And I also really appreciate Stormzy's ambition and drive in making a name for himself.'

Mullally is in the process of releasing his new single Wonderful. The song captures the last essence of summer and is available for download on September 13.
