A retirement home developer has launched a bid to build 30 bungalows in Norwich Road, Wymondham, between the Waitrose supermarket and East Anglia Care Homes.

McCarthy and Stone hopes to develop the re-develop the site now occupied by a residential property and outbuilding with two and three-bedroom units for seniors.

If it goes ahead, the firm estimates the new residents would pump an extra £670,000 into Wymondham's shops and businesses each year.

The plans will go on show at the Wymondham Rugby Club in Tuttles Lane East on September 7 from 3pm to 7pm, where people will have the chance to ask questions and leave feedback.

Mark Wright, the firm's regional managing director said: 'We want to hear from the local community and our future homeowners before we finalise our planning application. We will be displaying our plans at a public exhibition where our project team will be on hand to answer

questions and listen to feedback on what we have done so far.

'This proposal provides an important opportunity to deliver a sensitive residential development that will significantly improve the housing choices for older people in Wymondham, while also providing a boost for local businesses through increased year-round spending in the area.'

McCarthy and Stone has not yet put in a planning application for the site.

An application was made in July to South Norfolk Council by Josephine Ford to demolish the existing house and outbuildings, but the council said its approval was not needed.
