Westfield Infant School and Nursery in Watton and Forest Academy in Brandon are among three community causes in their areas to have been shortlisted for the Bags of Help Campaign.

The supermarket has teamed up with environmental charity Groundwork for the scheme, which will see grants of £12,000, £10,000 and £8,000 – all raised from the 5p plastic bag levy – awarded to environmental and green space projects.

Westfield and the adjoining SureStart Children's Centre are planning to use the grant to make improvements on their shared field area to remove old, damaged equipment and replace it with adventure play equipment, a pergola and large planters.

Westfield acting headteacher Amy Futers and SureStart centre manager Kirsty Massie said: 'The funding will help us work with our children and their families to enhance their physical development and to encourage them to make healthy choices.'

At Forest Academy, plans to transform a tired patch of its school playground into a multisensory outdoor learning area for pupils.

Headteacher April Grimes said: 'Children love to learn outside with the space to move, explore and experience a wider range of activities than can be provided within the classroom.'

Head of community at Tesco Lindsey Crompton said: 'The first round of the Bags of Help initiative was a fantastic success.

'We are absolutely delighted to open the voting for round two. There are some fantastic projects on the shortlists and we can't wait to see them come to life in hundreds of communities.'

Voting for the scheme is open from September 26 to October 29. Tesco shoppers can vote for your local scheme at branches in Thetford, Watton, Brandon, Swaffham, Dereham, King's Lynn and Fakenham.
