Sadie Boyce was left with broken glasses and a swollen eye after she tripped on an uneven section of brick paving on the Upper Market.
She was walking to her home on Lancaster Avenue with her shopping when she lost her footing.
'I caught my foot on it, I didn't even know the brick was there,' she said. 'I'd just been round to Tesco to get a few bits. The next thing it was crash, bang.'
Mrs Boyce said she wanted to thank staff and customers at the Crown Hotel and Gallery Bistro, who came out to help her and called an ambulance. An East of England Ambulance Service spokesman said: 'We received a 999 call at 4.25pm on Saturday, December 3, after reports an elderly woman had been injured in a fall near Market Place in Fakenham. An ambulance was dispatched to assist, after receiving care from the crew she was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.'
Mrs Boyce, who spent the night in hospital still has a painful swelling around her left eye and a sore neck and shoulder. Her glasses were broken in the fall and she has been quoted £50 for a new pair.
Norfolk County Council, which is responsible for the pavement, said it was inspected for hazards 12 times a year. A spokesman added: 'If the lady believes that the pavement was the cause of her fall, she – or a member of her family - is more than welcome to call the council on 0344 800 8020. She will then be sent a claim pack and will be able to apply for her glasses to be replaced, which they will be, if Norfolk County Council is found at fault.'
