Twenty-seven volunteers turned out for the first 'from litter to glitter' event in Halesworth this week.
The event will be a weekly litter pick around the park and Thoroughfare, organised by Halesworth in Bloom, to make sure the town is looking its best for when the judges next arrive for the Green Flag assessment.
The town was awarded the Green Flag Award last year - a prestigious recognition for meeting benchmark national standards for parks and green spaces in the UK - and Halesworth in Bloom leader Tamsyn Imison is keen for them to keep it.
She said: 'The aim is to get enough people to help each week so we can make sure the park and the town is looking really good.
'I came up with from litter to glitter because I thought it would capture the imagination of people. We want a beautifully clean and glittering town.'
The clean up is listed on the National Keep Britain Tidy website, and volunteers will meet every Wednesday at the flagpole in the park at 9.30am, with everyone welcome to help.
Litter picks, gloves and bags are being provided by the town council, and Halesworth in Bloom is linking up with other teams in the town who volunteer to keep their own areas tidy.
The event is also part of another project to create an extension to the Joseph Hooker Trail by planting ten specimen plants associated with Hooker around the perimeter of the park.
It will form part of the Joseph Hooker bicentenary celebrations, with two weekends of activities planned for June 30 to July 2, to mark his birth, and the third weekend in September.
