For almost 30 years, a group of dedicated volunteers have put their heart and soul into the fight against the biggest killer of our times - cancer.
But now, the few remaining members of the Attleborough and District Committee of Macmillan Cancer Support are calling it a day.
Sandra Adcock, chairman, and Veronica Hales, honorary treasurer, are winding down the group as no-one has stepped forward to take their place. Mrs Adcock said: 'We are in our 70s and 80s and it is so much heavy work putting up marquees and everything.
'I had hoped to find someone to take over my position but no-one came forward.'
The group has raised £450,000 towards Macmillan's Norfolk Project since 1988, helping to fund nurses and cancer care at the Priscilla Bacon Lodge in Norwich.
Mrs Adcock said she was proud of the work they had done over the years, hosting fundraising fetes, coffee mornings, and much more.
She said: 'We've always been well-supported by the public - it's been really lovely.
'We'd like to thank the people of Attleborough and district and those that have helped - we couldn't have done it without them.'
Mrs Adcock said she would continue to run an annual Macmillan Christmas carnival at the town hall, held at the same time as the town's Christmas lights switch-on.
Cancer Research UK says 50pc of people born after 1960 in the UK will be diagnosed with some form of cancer during their lifetime.
Anyone who might be interested in carrying on the group can contact Mrs Adcock on 01953 453361.
