Around 40 firefighters have been tackling a fire in the roof of a converted barn on Newton Street in Newton St Faith.
Norfolk Fire and Rescue had six pumps and several special appliances attempting to extinguish a fire in the roof of a converted barn just off Newton Street.
The crews used breathing apparatus, hose reel jets and CAFS to extinguish the flames.
Peter Rowe, station manager for Sprowston, said there had been 'extensive damage' done to the property. The owner had been at home when the fire started, but the house was evacuated promptly.
'When we attended we had a well established fire in the middle section of the roof of the converted barn,' said Mr Rowe. 'We have used an aerial ladder platform with compressed air foam to tackle the roof fire, and managed to save a large percentage of the building. Obviously there is considerable damage done as a result of the fire. The owner had been present at the time and put the initial call in. They got out safely and no-one was involved in the fire. 'Fire investigations are booked for either late today or early tomorrow, and it is far to soon to say any cause. 'There is extensive damage and it will be uninhabitable until such time as the repair work is done.'
There were no injuries as a result of the fire and crews left the scene around three hours after the initial reports.
