La Cage Aux Folles performers make sweet treats at Norwich cookery school

The show is currently at Norwich Theatre Royal and, ahead of opening night on Tuesday, some of the cast paid a visit to the Richard Hughes Cookery School, at the Assembly House, where they spent the afternoon perfecting some macaroons and pastries.

Richard Leavey, who plays one of the La Cagelles in the show, said they had a great time in the kitchen.

'This is not something you get to do every day. It is so much fun and we have loved decorating some French fancies with Richard and his team,' he said.

'It has brought out my inner Mary Berry although she probably does not wear such high heels or hold as many feathers as my character in the show.' Mr Leavey has also previously performed in a number of Norwich Theatre Royal pantomimes and he said it was great to be back in the city.

'Coming back here is giving me the chance to see the wonderful staff and crew at the theatre who are like family to me and make work so much fun. They are a loyal group of people who always welcome me back with open arms,' he said.

In La Cage Aux Folles, the dazzling drag artiste Albin (played by John Partridge) is the star of the La Cage Aux Folles club run by his partner Georges (Adriam Zmed).

But the pair find their idyllic existence in St Tropez under threat when Georges' son announces he is marrying the daughter of a right wing politician.

I Am What I Am and The Best of Times are among the show-stopping songs in the production.
