Council bosses in Norwich have agreed to continue with a scheme which gives up to 100pc reduction to people who qualify for help in paying their council tax.

Through the council tax reduction scheme, certain people on a low income are entitled to help in paying their council tax.

Some councils have introduced a cap, for example to 75pc, meaning people still have to pay for a quarter of their council tax.

However, at a recent meeting of Norwich City Council, councillors voted to retain the scheme offering the full reduction.

Vaughan Thomas, cabinet member for fairness and equality, said: 'By maintaining a 100pc scheme, we have protected our working age vulnerable, maintained equality and simplicity for those pension age claimants.

'And we have not saddled the council with a costly administrative burden chasing small debts from those least able to pay.'
