A self-confessed chocoholic from Downham Market is encouraging the local community to take on the British Heart Foundation's (BHF) DECHOX fundraiser this March.
New-mum Laura Harwin will attempt to give up chocolate for the whole month to raise money for the BHF after losing her mother to a rare heart condition in February 2010.
Her mother Beryl was only 48 when she began to experience symptoms similar to heartburn.
When the symptoms didn't go away, she went to hospital where she was diagnosed with myocarditis, a viral infection causing inflammation of the heart muscle.
Laura is now encouraging others to sign up to DECHOX to help fund pioneering heart research, the 30-year-old said: 'My mum's death has completely changed my perceptions of heart disease - there are so many different conditions that can affect anyone at any time.
'Taking part in DECHOX is my way to help fund research so one day families aren't torn apart like mine was. I gave birth just three months ago, so I may lose some baby weight as well!'
Last year more than 18,000 people took part in DECHOX, raising around £860,000. For more information visit dechox.bhf.org.uk
