Norwich may be awash with self checkouts and self-service restaurants, but now the city is to get its first ever self-blowdry bar.
Those behind the U Dry salon say it strips back all the extras that usually bump up the price of a trip to the hairdressers, including the blowdry.
Founder Brian Coombes said: 'We do use top stylists to cut and colour hair – but we don't pay them to make tea or talk about holidays. Crucially they don't spend time blow-drying hair. That we leave to clients.'
The self-blowdry bar - thought to be the first of its kind in the UK - will be based in Bedford Street and opens on Thursday, March 9.
Mr Coombes added: 'In my 20 years as a hairdresser the industry has changed very little. To get a haircut, you still also have to stay and pay for a blow dry. So I thought it was time for a change. Why not just pay for the bit you actually want?'
The salon is stocked with professional products, hairdryers and straighteners and operates on a walk-in basis.
