Police recruitment opens in Suffolk today as the county's force looks to take on more officers.

Suffolk Constabulary bosses said they were 'delighted' to see the force recruiting, along with Norfolk Constabulary, for the first time this year.

The force is also using Facebook Live to let prospective candidates ask questions of serving officers and staff.

Chief Constable Gareth Wilson said: 'I am delighted that we are in a position to continue to recruit new police officers again this year.

'Policing is a highly rewarding career and working in the two counties there are a broad variety of roles that you can perform.

'Being a police officer helps you to make a difference to your community in many ways and equally contributes to a feeling of safety and wellbeing across the county.'

The Facebook Live question and answer sessions will take place on Thursday, March 16, on Suffolk Constabulary's Facebook page.

Norfolk Constabulary will also hold a similar event on March 22 on its own Facebook page.

Last December, it was reported more joint working was likely to be on the cards between Suffolk and Norfolk, as both forces faced cuts in their Government grant.

Suffolk's cut was around £900,000. At the time, Suffolk's police and crime commissioner Tim Passmore said as well as more partnership working with Norfolk, there would be other joint working with police forces across the region.

Reacting to the new recruitment of Suffolk officers, Mr Passmore said: 'I'm really pleased Suffolk Constabulary is recruiting additional police officers once more. Policing is a fantastic career with a wide range of disciplines and opportunities. Suffolk police has the deserved reputation as one of the best and most dynamic forces in the country and we need the best people available.

'If you think you've got what it takes do come along and find out more – you'll be very welcome.'

Videos of officers and student officers already in the role talking about why they work for the police will be released throughout the recruitment window while new recruits can be followed on @SPoliceStudents and @NPoliceStudents as they work through training.
