The scene was attended by appliances from King's Lynn north and south fire stations.
Crews pulled the woman out of the water to safety using an inflatable rescue boat.
She received treatment by paramedics on the riverbank, before being taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
King's Lynn police later tweeted about the incident: 'Distressed lady rescued from the river by police and fire service at Wiggenhall St Mary.
'It's not all just cops and robbers.'
Fire crews have use of a fast RIB - rigid inflatable boat - for use when rescuing people from the many rivers and drains around Lynn.
