Thetford quiz team tried their best but were unable to crack the Eggheads

Although they walked away without the prize money, the team, which featured a father and his two sons, said it was a 'fantastic experience'.

Peter Harvey, 56, Brian Cooper, 59, Simon Cooper, 31, Chris Cooper, 29 and David Hobbs, 60, took on the five-strong Eggheads who are deemed to be 'possibly the greatest quiz team in Britain'.

And the Thetford men showed-off their pride for their home town by calling their team 'We're Doomed!' - the famous phrase uttered by Private Frazer in the BBC Sitcom Dad's Army, which was filmed in and around the town.

The Dad's Army museum also got a mention with host Jeremy Vine also using the opportunity to quote a few more of the much-loved show's quotes.

Mr Harvey said: 'It was interesting and I felt that all the team did very well and we made them [the Eggheads] answer the three questions in all of the rounds.

'We did not give them an easy ride. I thought everyone did really well and Dave done well to win his round.'

Brian Cooper, his son Chris, and Mr Harvey got knocked out and were unable to play in the final.

Mr Hobbs made it through to the last round along with Simon, but they were unable to beat the quiz team and lost 3-2.

Mr Harvey said it was good to go to Glasgow to film the show and meet the Eggheads and Jeremy Vine.

'It was a fantastic experience,' he said. 'They were very friendly and made us feel really welcome.

'We were really pleased we could mention the museum. My next door neighbour works as a volunteer at the museum.'
