A 58-year-old man has denied attempting to abduct a nine-year-old girl from outside a supermarket in Lowestoft when he appeared at Norwich Magistrates Court.

Paul Andrews, of no fixed address, was arrested following the alleged incident which happened at North Quay Retail Park on Saturday, June 10, after a woman reported that a man had approached her daughter as they stood outside Morrisons supermarket about 8.10pm.

Andrews, who was casually dressed wearing a dark T-shirt and shorts, appeared via video link for the hearing and he pleaded not guilty to attempting the abduct the girl from her mother on June 10.

Andrews, who has grey hair and a beard, was refused bail and was remanded in custody.

His next hearing will be at Ipswich Crown Court for a further case management hearing on July 14.
