A pensioner feared his mugger might have a gun during an attempted robbery in Great Yarmouth.

Tony Ward, 77, is known for his tombola charity stall outside Poundland near the town's bus station.

He was going to the pet shop in Victoria Arcade at about 4pm on Monday when he was grabbed by a man – believed to be in his late 20s or early 30s.

The stranger then started riffling through Mr Ward's pockets and tore his jacket in the process.

Mr Ward added: 'I was worried he might have a gun or a knife.'

The man made off without anything and ran down the arcade towards the quay.
