A Gorleston man is sporting a trim new look after taking the brave decision to go for the chop for charity.

Harry Barron, who works at Independence Matters, has raised £550 for a patio garden area at the charity's Rosewood hub in Suffolk Road, Gorleston.

He said he was delighted with his new look after ten years with long locks, adding: 'Everybody seems to like it.'

The clean-cut style was easier to manage and he had been told he looked younger, he said.

On the day instead of bringing in professionals he let colleagues and centre clients loose on his tresses, finishing off with a whizz round with the clippers.

The discarded hair was sent to the Little Princess Trust to be made into wigs for children suffering hair loss due to cancer treatment.

The 54-year-old said the event surpassed all his expectations, beating his target and raising the charity's profile.

Lottery funding has paid for the bulk of the work at the garden, but a patio area was needed for people in wheelchairs or those using a walking frame.

Non-slip paving slabs will be laid and the leftover money used to buy plants and flowers.
