The North Norfolk District Council have warned the public against playing on the lethal cliffs at West Runton beach.
Spectators watched on in despair as groups of people were seen playing and walking down the sandy cliffs, which beach goers are frequently warned away from.
Cabinet Member for Leisure at North Norfolk District Council, councillor Maggie Prior said: 'There are rocks hidden under the sand. It is highly dangerous and we would advise parents to not let their children 'surf' the dunes and cliffs. It's great that so many people are enjoying the spectacular beaches and coast in North Norfolk and we want to ensure that people stay safe.'
Councillor Prior added: 'People have been jumping and rolling down some of the sandy cliffs at West Runton and we would urge families and holidaymakers to use the signposted paths down to the beach and to be aware that there are rocks hidden under the sand. It's so dangerous and a child or adult could be killed or seriously injured.'
Natalie Merrick was one of the witnesses of the event. She said: 'I found it shocking that adults were allowing their children onto the cliffs as well as climbing up them as well. A boy of maybe late teens was sliding on his stomach down the cliffs and his parents were encouraging him.
'I can only assume that these people were tourists and weren't fully aware of the risk.'
She added: 'I think the signs need to be bigger, but you are always going to get people who believe nothing will happen to them.'
Ms Merrick continued: 'I have brought my children up to stay away from the cliffs and know the danger surrounding them.'
