Changes to primary school education in Hethersett have moved a step closer.

Norfolk County Council has moved to the next stage in its plan to transform the current infant and junior schools by making them all-through primary schools.

Under the plans, the village's infant school would move to a site on a new estate and the junior school would undergo significant expansion.

Matt Dunkley, interim director of children's services, said: 'Hethersett is doubling in size and it is important that we plan for the future so that there are enough school places for children in the community.

'This proposal will mean we can retain and build on the brilliant schools that already serve the village, moving the current infant school to a new site and expanding the junior school.

The council has held an 'informal' six-week consultation, with 37 people responding, and said most of those responses supported the plan.

A formal four-week consultation now follows.

The council said the governing bodies of both schools and the Diocese of Norwich support the idea.
