Two supermarket colleagues from Norwich had an unexpected home delivery recently – when their baby son Oscar was born in the back of a car.
Proud dad Lee Seaman, who works at the Asda in Norwich as fresh production manager, played the role of midwife after his partner Nicola Hayes' waters broke and they didn't have enough time to get to hospital before she gave birth.
Nicola, who works at the same supermarket, met Lee more than four years ago when she was working on the home and leisure department in the store on Drayton High Road and Lee switched from working nights to the day shifts.
The couple hit it off straight away and have been together ever since.
By coincidence, Lee's mum Denise Woodall also works at the same store as a service colleague – and helped her son deliver the baby.
Expectant mum Nicola woke up early on July 20 and was advised go to the hospital immediately after her waters broke.
However, despite living only five minutes away from the hospital, traffic jams meant the pair had to take a detour and Nicola ended up giving birth in the back of Lee's Vauxhall outside his mum's house.
Nicola was on the phone to the local ambulance service whilst they were in the car on route to the hospital, but her contractions had already started and were getting stronger, so she passed the phone to Lee who began taking direction from the paramedics on the other end.
Lee's mum Denise – who was looking after the couple's first child, four-year-old Mia, at the time – heard the commotion outside her house and came rushing outside.
She was shocked to find the birth so far along, so she ran back into the house to get some towels and returned to witness Lee bring the latest addition to the family into the world from the back of his car.
Mr Seaman said: 'I was in shock but went into auto pilot and just did what needed to be done. Oscar seemed lifeless but I rubbed him with a towel and he started to wriggle.
'I was as white as a sheet and just couldn't believe what had happened.'
His mum, Denise, added: 'I was in awe of Lee and Nicola, it was amazing to see Oscar be born and I was so so proud of them both.'
