Breckland councillors have voted to accept new funding that will help improve the support offered to those at risk of homelessness.
The £167,123 made available through the government's Flexible Homeless Support Grant was accepted on Thursday, September 21, following an assessment carried out within the council to determine how the funding could be best used.
Councillor Gordon Bambridge, Breckland Council executive member for growth, said: 'Previously government funding for homelessness prevention had such restricted eligibility that we were not able to apply so this new, more flexible support grant is going to make a real difference to us.'
The council will now look to recruit two specialist support workers who will provide tailored and intensive support to households within the district who are at risk of homelessness. This could include advice in managing debts, family mediation or help getting back into work.
