The Cathedral of St John the Baptist, on Unthank Road, was designed by George Gilbert Scott Junior and built from the generosity of Henry Fitzalan Howard, 15th Duke of Norfolk, between 1882 and 1910 at a cost of approximately £230,000.
George Gilbert's brother, John Oldried Scott completed the building after the death of the original architect a few years before the building was completed.
