A 'good citizen' helped alleviate congestion in Norwich after issues with a set of temporary traffic lights led to long queues.
Accountant Neil Wilson said problems with the phasing of the lights at the retail park off Hall Road caused gridlock on Saturday afternoon.
But the 60-year-old said that one man solved the issue by standing in front of them and directing traffic with his hands.
Mr Wilson, of Brundall, said: 'He was just a regular citizen directing traffic against the colour of the lights and was clearing as much of the queue as he could.
'I don't know how long he ended up standing there for, but I was impressed by him for taking charge. I think he should get a thank you for being a good citizen.'
Mr Wilson said he had been sitting in a queue for 30 minutes trying to leave the retail park before the man took over.
The temporary traffic lights were installed on Whiting Road.
