Police were called out to the River Wensum in Norwich city centre following concerns for a man's safety.
The incident happened shortly before 2.45pm today.
A Norfolk police spokesman said: 'Police were called to Wensum Street in Norwich just after 2.45pm following concerns for the safety of a man seen swimming in the river.
'Officers attended and the man came out of the water. They called for an ambulance due to concerns for the man's health.'
