Church bells, floodlights and children's play equipment are among the projects being given a council funding boost.

North Norfolk District Council's Big Society Fund (BSF) has just awarded more than £95,000 to 13 recipients.

All Saints Church in Upper Sheringham received £10,000 towards the restoration of six church bells and a chiming mechanism to enable those who have difficulty in managing stairs to take part in bell-ringing.

Sue Morton, who is co-ordinating the church bells project, said: 'We are delighted the BSF has supported the Upper Sheringham Bell Appeal so generously. It will be an amazing opportunity for all members of the community to take part and help make the bells ring out again to celebrate church and community events.

'With this help, we will be able to welcome people into the church even if they do not wish to worship. The great thing about bell-ringing is that it brings people of all ages and walks of life together to work as a team.'

Meanwhile, Hoveton Village Hall and Recreation Ground was awarded £13,025.50 to buy two pieces of play equipment, a zip wire and swing set, plus safety matting.

North Walsham Football Club was handed £10,000 to refurbish the floodlights that cover the main pitch, youth pitches and the training area at Greens Road.

And All Saints Church, Beeston Regis was awarded £10,000 to install a toilet that will have disabled facilities and access, and will include baby-changing facilities.

Orther projects receiving funding are Coronation Hall, Mundesley (£10,000), East Ruston Village Hall (10,000), Fakenham Town Council (£8,000),

Skeyton Village Hall (10,000), Southrepps Village Hall (6,246.08), Hawk and Owl Trust, Sculthorpe (£3,110.40), Hindolveston Parish Council (£2,000), North Norfolk Astronomy Society (£4,000) and Sheringham Bridge Learners Club (£300).

Since the fund started in 2012, NNDC has awarded more than £1.7m to 232 community projects.

John Lee, Leader of North Norfolk District Council and Chairman of the BSF panel, said: 'It is always great to be able to support these good causes within our community.'
