A search was carried out on a north Norfolk beach after reports that a woman had gone into the sea.

The HM Coastguard team at Bacton was paged at 6.45pm on Monday, March 25 to reports that a missing female missing may have entered the sea.

A spokesman said: 'On arrival the Bacton team did a search of the beach north and south of the location,

'Cromer CRT (coastal rescue team) searched around the houses and roads in the area, then searched the beach from Walcott.

'Mundesley inshore lifeboat was tasked with doing a sea search and Coastguard helicopter 912 was also called out.

'After two hours, news came in that the lady in question was safe and well, all teams stood down.'

A spokesman for Norfolk police said they were called at 6.30pm to reports that a woman was missing in the area.

'The woman was located at an address in Mundesley, at about 9pm. She had not gone into the water,' a spokesman added.

The Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service drone team was also involved and an officer helped the police with the search.

Bob Francis, from the inshore lifeboat, said: 'We were tasked at 6.48pm and launched through very heavy surf with the onset of dusk at 6.55pm. We searched the area of Bacton where the lady was last seen.

'The crew had thermal imagery night sight. Because of the surf we could not get that close to the beach.

'We completed our area search in about an hour, surf conditions were getting worse, and we were released by Humber Coastguard.'
