Motorists were warned to avoid a section of the A11 on Thursday after soaring temperatures melted the tarmac.
Officers closed the A11, Norwich bound, at Spooner Row, near Wymondham, due to safety concerns after temperatures hit highs of 38C across the region.
Traffic was diverted via Besthorpe where drivers will be able to rejoin the A11 at Wymondham.
On Twitter Norfolk Police said at the time: "Officers have closed the A11 Norwich bound at Spooner Row due to melting tarmac which is causing a danger to road users.
"Traffic will be diverted via Besthorpe and will be able to rejoin at Wymondham. Please avoid the area if you can."
A team from Highways carried out emergency repairs.
A Norfolk County Council (NCC) spokesperson added: "The materials used for our road surfaces are designed to withstand a wide range of temperatures throughout the year and today road surface temperatures have reached up to 45 degrees in some areas.
"Our highways teams continue to keep a close eye on higher risk sites, such as those recently surface dressed, across the county."
