Norwich City striker Chris Martin hopes his days on loan are coming to an end as he looks for a permanent move.

The 24-year-old Martin joined Derby County on a 28-day emergency deal on Friday and made his debut as a half-time substitute in Saturday’s 2-1 Championship defeat at Watford.

He earned a penalty when he was fouled by Lloyd Doyley and Jamie Ward scored from the spot to bring the Rams back to 2-1, but the Hornets held on for victory to go second in the table.

“Hopefully, there will not be too many more loan moves and I can look to move somewhere permanently,” said Martin, who has had previous spells with Luton, Crystal Palace and Swindon.

When asked about a permanent move to Derby, he said: “Who knows what might happen?

“That is a possibility, I hope, but we have just got to see how this month goes.

“Hopefully, the club like me, I like the club and everything goes well.

“I am just looking forward to these first four weeks and trying to contribute towards the team’s goals and see where it takes us.”

Martin trained with his new team-mates at Moor Farm on Friday before travelling south for the Watford game.

He told the Derby Telegraph: “I am no stranger to the first few days of a loan move. It is just a case of bedding in and getting to know people.

“I’ve not been involved, of course, at Norwich. I am not in the 25-man squad there, so once I got back from my loan spell at Swindon, it was all about trying to get this loan move sorted out.”

He has a good scoring record against Derby with four goals, including his last goal for the Canaries in a 2-1 Championship win in December 2010.

“I have scored a couple at Pride Park and, hopefully, I can score some more in a Derby shirt,” he said.

Martin scored only once in a dozen games for Swindon under Paolo Di Canio, who resigned as manager last week.
