Graham Dorrans is an ‘outstanding’ player who Kenny Miller hopes will be joining him at Rangers next season.

The Glasgow giants have been chasing the 30-year-old midfielder for weeks but reports suggest the Scottish Premiership side have not matched City’s asking price.

The Gers are understood to have offered a package in excess of £1million but the Canaries believe the Scotland international should bring in closer to £1.5m up front.

“He’s an outstanding footballer,” veteran striker Miller said of Dorrans. “When I saw him linked with us towards the end of last season I watched him for Norwich to see if he was still the player I knew.

“They played Brighton and he ran the game.”

Norwich City transfer rumours: Rangers still have work to do to sign Graham Dorrans

The 37-year-old may no longer be in Scotland contention but he chipped in with 14 goals to help the Gers finish third last season to take his tally for the club to 111 from his three spells at Ibrox. Two of City’s Scotland international have also told Miller how highly they rate the former West Brom and Livingston midfielder.

“I also met Russell Martin on holiday who was very complimentary about him,” Miller continued.

“Stevie Naismith reckons he’s maybe their best player so if we got a player like that to this club, it’d only be a positive thing.”

Dorrans has made 67 appearances for the Canaries, scoring nine goals, since initially joining on loan in February 2015 and making his deal permanent after promotion to the Premier League. He then signed a three-year deal following relegation back to the Championship but reportedly wants to return to Scotland and supported Rangers as a youngster.

Portuguese boss Pedro Caixinha has already brought an influx of players from his homeland and Miller hopes Dorrans will help to maintain a British core.

“If you look at the balance of the signings so far, it hasn’t involved a Scottish core,” the Scot said, speaking to the Scottish Sun.

“But I think we need to keep a level of British and Scottish players, who know what’s required to play here and Graham would be a huge signing.

“We’d definitely be heading in the right direction if we got a player of that quality. He’s played 10 years in England, all at Championship level or higher.”
